Looking for Beta Readers and ARC Readers

Hey everyone! Today’s post is a bit different. I’m trying to build a team of trusted people who are willing to help out a slow writer, so I’m now opening up my beta readers and ARC readers list!

What is a Beta Reader?

As per Reedsy:

A beta reader is someone who reads a book manuscript to provide feedback for the author. Though beta readers are not editors or professional critics, they can play an important role in helping the author improve the work by pointing out errors, plot holes, inconsistencies, or unclear passages.
Beta readers are not required to leave reviews.

This is a volunteer position.

What do I get for doing this?

  • A free book
  • Early access to the book: read it before anyone else has read it
  • Practice for your own writing and/or reading skills
  • Learn to provide constructive criticism
  • The knowledge that you’ve taken part in helping the creative process!

Requirements:

  • Have an eye for errors and inconsistencies
  • Know the book genre and read plenty in it
  • Be kind and constructive, but honest
  • Be able to follow instructions
  • Be reliable and committed (there are deadlines to meet)
  • Maintain confidentiality (no sharing of the files)

What is an ARC?

ARC stands for Advance Review (or Reader) Copy. It’s given by authors and publishers for free to readers, in order to get reviews. As an ARC reader you don’t need to provide feedback like Beta Readers do (although it’s always nice to get an email if you do find an error), all you need to do is read and (hopefully!) enjoy the book! As an exchange, it’s expected for you to leave an honest review.

This is a volunteer position.

What do I get for doing this?

  • A free book
  • Early access to the book
  • Learn to provide constructive criticism by providing honest reviews
  • The knowledge that you’ve helped fellow readers find their next read!

Requirements:

  • Be honest (but kind when leaving a review, even bad reviews can be worded politely)
  • Enjoy the genre you choose to read
  • Leave a review in most of the ARCs you sign up for
  • Be reliable and committed (there are deadlines to meet)
  • Maintain confidentiality (no sharing of the files)

What does it mean to be part of a Launch Team?

A launch team, or as it’s also called: a street team, is a group of hopefully enthusiastic readers who help support and promote an author’s new book before and during the release. Launch team members help generate buzz by sharing information about the book on their social media, writing reviews, and spreading the word to their friends.

This is a volunteer position.

What do I get for doing this?

  • A free book
  • Early access to the book: read it before anyone else has read it
  • The images to share on your social media (although you’re welcome to make your own!)
  • Learn to provide constructive criticism by providing honest reviews
  • The knowledge that you’ve taken part in helping an indie author!
  • The knowledge that you’ve helped fellow readers find their next read!

Requirements:

  • A love for the genre you choose to help with
  • Liking the author’s previous books OR a will to help an indie author with spreading the word
  • At least one social media account with followers and the ability to share into it
  • Leave a review. Be honest (but kind. Again: even bad reviews can be worded politely)
  • Knows the difference between sharing and spamming
  • Be able to follow instructions
  • Be reliable and committed (there are deadlines to meet)
  • Maintain confidentiality (no sharing of the files)

Who should join?

  • Passionate M/M romance readers who can’t get enough
